Learning about the Art of Anxiety

about living with anxiety

Anxiety isn’t just one thing. Nor is it something that’s static. It is ever changing and so complex it can be impossible to get your head around. It’s also unique. I like to think of it like art.

Just like art, anxiety can be hard to understand, open to interpretation and contain hidden meanings waiting to be uncovered. It’s conceptual, expressive, imaginative and oftentimes doesn’t make sense. It is beautiful, diverse and packed full of emotion.

It is not something you fight, nor erase, nor conquer, manage, fix, avoid, cure or handle but rather something you master.

Anxiety and the World

Discover how your anxiety influences and is influenced by the world around you.

We don’t exist on our own. There are things that affect us every day. They can be small, they can be large or they can be things we don’t even realise.

Learning about your anxiety can help make living in the world a lot easier.

Unfortunately the world isn’t built for anxious people. So we need to try a little harder to do the things people without anxiety find easy.

Living With Anxiety

Anxiety happens within you. It is made up of thoughts, feelings and sensations.

Anxiety occurs within your body. It is triggered by your mind and leads to an emotional and physical response.

Discovering how your anxiety functions, can make living as an anxious person a whole lot easier.

While Googling your symptoms can give you answers, the best resource when it comes to learning about anxiety is already in the palm of your hands (spoiler: it’s you).

Finding What Works

crown about

Everyone is different. We look different, we dress differently, so it makes sense that we feel things differently.

But when it comes to treating anxiety and depression, I always thought it was a one-size-fits-all solution.

It’s not though.

The best and only way to master your anxiety is to find what works for you. This happens through trial and error. But constantly trying new techniques won’t work unless you learn from each.

Even though meditation might not work for you, you may find sitting down and just taking a few minutes to be beneficial.

Finding what works for you, is like finding your crown. It gives you the power to rule over your anxiety and tell it what to do.

Don’t get me wrong, it will revolt and fight back. But you’ll have the ability to keep it in place while you keep living your life and kicking ass.

About the Creator

Being open about my anxiety has always been difficult. I’ve always felt ashamed or broken. For most of my life I thought that I was the only one who felt the way I did. I thought I was alone.

But when I learned the name of the feeling that made me ‘different’ at 16, I’ve been searching and learning everything I can about my anxiety. On my journey I’ve learned so many things from so many places. I’ve tried some things and hated them. I’ve tried other things and now do them every single day. It’s been a journey of highs and lows.

But each time I think I have mastered my mind, something happens and I discover a whole new area of myself to study. My anxiety evolves, so I have to as well.

But along my journey I have gathered a lot of knowledge and experience. I’ve come out of depression, left agoraphobia behind and done things I never imagined I’d be able to.

This blog is meant to be a space where I can share what I’ve learned and help other anxious people on their journey.

It's not just you

You’re not the only anxious human.

There are tons of us. But we’re all really good at hiding it. Most people who meet me say they would’ve had no idea I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I’ve learned to keep it tucked away. But this keeps you isolated and honestly does more harm than good.

Learning from others who have anxiety is an amazing way to learn about your own anxiety and find a sense of community. Artists and Masters is dedicated to anxious people. These incredible human beings have made amazing strides in the Art of Anxiety.

If you’re looking for inspiration, information or a little innovation when it comes to mastering mental illness, here it is.
